Collaborative images

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

There are a few tools available for collaborative creation of images online.

Poietic Generator

[edit]

The Poietic Generator is an experimental device under an ArtLibre licence. It lets many people work on a collaborative image at the same time. Users paint with a rather simple editor simultaneously. Each individual controls one square of the whole picture, and can't paint on other squares; you can swap squares by disconnecting & reconnecting. All contributions are recorded and can be undone.

Poietic Aggregator

[edit]

The Poietic Aggregator makes it possible to visualise the content of daily news in the form of an RSS feeds on various Internet sites (Wikis, blogs, search engines, and others) for example shaped as refreshed coloured matrices every couple of minutes. Colours (or small pictures) are associated with various keywords of the RSS file according to the user’s choice. Inside one of these matrices (that correspond to a site), the “last change” is located in top on the left, the oldest change is in bottom on the right. For knowing the content of the news, one has just to explore the table with the mouse. For opening the page corresponding to one of these squares, one has just to make a right click on the square in question so as to open a new tab of the navigator. The Poietic Aggregator can have two different uses, 1) just for Internet watch, 2) above all the exchange of information in real time within the communities of blog users, wikis users or users of all other systems of publications. These developments are carried out in a logic of functional prototyping. They lead towards a reflection on the orientations of the project with a concrete testing of its functionalities. They are not necessarily to be considered as fixed implementations.

artpad

[edit]

Artpad is a web tool that lets you use two different kinds of painting tools to paint art on a digital canvas. Only one person can edit a painting at a time, and the full history of the artwork is preserved. You can send a particular result to a friend; this creates a unique URL for the work. Better yet, after following that URL, the other person can alter the painting (or even undo the last changes from your previous undo tree?)... so many people can successively work on the same canvas.
