Code for Africa (CfA), in partnership with International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) and Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), is organising a 10-month long campaign to tackle climate denialism and related mis/disinformation on Wikipedia. The campaign will be led by a group of Wikimedian-in-Residence (WiR) fellows from Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. The campaign’s theme is Bridging the Gap: Using Wikipedia To Fight Climate Denialism.
The Wikipedian-in-Residence Fellows are change-makers, growing the local community of volunteers Wikipedia editors and contributors by organising events, facilitating technical training, marshalling resources, and forging partnerships with climate research organisations. The fellows will help pioneer new ways for the wider African Wikipedia community to mobilise and tackle climate denialism and related mis/disinformation.
Furthermore, the community of volunteers will be guided and supported by the WiRs to make contributions and grow their skills regarding climate change issues.
