Certificating training   History   Wikimedia Italia   Method   References

The project Certificating Training started in 2013 with a series of preliminary steps and it was implemented for the first time in 2023-2024 with the certification by Wikimedia Italia of 12 trainers.

Preliminary steps

[edit]

The project was initiated in 2013 by Iolanda Pensa with a series of steps

  • Done Brainstorming on the project structure and approach. Discussions on the discussion page, by email and during events. Brainstorming about the scope of the certification.
  • Done Structure of the auto-evaluation and the survey. Preparation of the survey, discussion about it.
  • Done Involvement of relevant people from chapters/groups/affiliates and other institutions and from the international community working on educational projects (feedback, hints, materials). Meetings with Wikimedia Italia and Wikimedia CH
  • Done Creation of a Role game: examiners against examinees (and then the other way around). A team of people who can identify skills and knowledge needed for each role-task, identify which is the bottom line for each role-task ("you absolutely need to know this", you absolutely need to be able to do this thing"), provide hints where to find the knowledge needed (or produce that knowledge), provide hints on how to assist people in gaining skills (i.e. having a tutor when you prepare your first important presentation). The team can invite all exporters and people they want/need to support them in the process.
  • The idea of the pilot was conceived within the frame of the project The Alps on Wikipedia and designed to be implemented in Lugano in Switzerland, but it was not implemented.

The project included other two phases which were not finalised:

  • Structuring the training materials and certification system.
  • Collecting feedback after the training; collecting the certification results, collecting feedback 6 months after the training.

Evaluation of the first round 2023-2024

In 2022 Wikimedia Italia started the implementation of its certification system for trainers. The system was conceived and directed by Iolanda Pensa and coordinated by Marco Chemello (in 2022) and by Ilaria Diterlizzi (2023-2024); a scientific committee was nominated and it was involved in validating and further developing the approach, and in supporting the evaluation of the trainers. The system is based on the previous experience of the certificating training and it created the first round of 12 certified trainers in 2023-2024.
