Cascadia Wikimedians' responses
[edit]- Comment While I understand the WMF's board's desire to rebrand to something like Wikipedia rather than Wikimedia, I do think that WMF has not communicated the impetus for this well. There are many questions around this for the affiliates, & I would advise a slowing down to the process. Peaceray (talk) 18:38, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- Support signing I already signed this as an individual. At this point with 50 Wikimedia community organizations and 700 individuals signing, the request in this letter is a mainstream Wikimedia community perspective. In the hundreds of comments of why this issue is important to signatories people have raised dozens of different concerns. The concerns that are most important to me are that I feel that the rebrand is not a renaming or a redesign of the logo, but rather, a repositioning of the Wikimedia Foundation to start speaking on behalf of the Wikimedia community. I feel that the Wikimedia community can speak for itself, as globally, the volunteer community is eager and willing to develop plans for the best way to advance the shared Wikimedia mission. There is no need to transfer more of that planning to paid staff of the Wikimedia Foundation. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:11, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Bluerasberry: Speak for the Wikimedia community? Sometimes I wonder if they even speak to the Wikimedia community. - Jmabel (talk) 19:28, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

- Seems to me that no one objects, and we should sign as an organization. - Jmabel (talk) 00:48, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
