A:

I am so lucky to be part of Wikimania 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden. This was my first Wikimania and I am so thankful to the CIS-A2K team for giving me such a beautiful opportunity. It is always a pleasure and also my intention to learn more and share my experience with other Wikipedians, especially when I meet them in person. Same happened in Wikimania, some new avenues have opened for me and also, I share my experiences with some Wikipedians.

During pre-conference days (14th August – 15th August 2019) I took part in Hackathon to diversify my learning and also on 15th August I participated in ‘Wikidata: Wikiproject India – Indian Independence Day 2019’. I didn’t confine myself in Hackathon but also took part in some other activities of Wikimania during pre-conference days. During conference days, I attended many sessions that related to Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata that have interconnected/Related with Commons, Photography and Wiki Love Monuments. Also, meet with two Kiwix team member and suggested about Bengali Wikipedia.

  • Please explain in details what would you have liked to be different and why?(how could we improve the conference, write in details, please)
A:

Till today, here in India, the biggest conference cum training session that I have attended so far is TTT in Bangalore conducted by CIS-A2K. So, I can only compare the Wikimania with this because I had no other option left with me. Another reason is this is my first Wikimania, so, no option left for me other than TTT. And I think our model of organising TTT, the event was up to the international standard or in another way our model should be highlighted at the international level. For me, TTT was more compact, more organised in nature but maybe a little smaller than Wikimania, still, I must say our team was excellent and efficient.

  1. In Wikimania, the sessions should be more interactive.
  2. There should be a group of dedicated volunteer for guiding new attendees in Wikimania.
  3. Before approved any sessions or include in the program list of Wikimania, the topic must be approved through the voting process by the Volunteers.
  4. There should a process to segregate volunteers in groups in terms of the working domain. So that it would be very easy for someone to interact and learn from each other of similar interest.

  • Do you have anything to share?
A:

After back from Wikimania I write a blog post, can be found here and uploaded some photographs of Wikimania 2019, here.
