Background

[edit]

At the wiki SAARC eduction held in Christ University, Bangalore last year we had an opportunity to know how can we engage students in educational activities related to Wikipedia. so we introduce wikisource to them. They will get reading habits and to absorb good ideas at the same time they contribute as much as they can. After getting permission from the headmaster, we selected 6 Students from each 9th standard on February 18th to make an account. after that we were training for an hour every day after school time. Then we planned to conduct a one-day Edit-a-thon.

event in brief

[edit]

After the morning prayer, we began with a short description of the edit-a-thon. Later, as usual, we allocated pages of a book to all the students. Then, after lunch break, we proof read until 4.30 p.m. Then we took the group photo.

Learnings

[edit]

When I said that we had selected 9 standard government school students for this work, many expressed their hesitations (including whom my fellow teachers). But my students were very effective in their work. Therefore, we plan to check (final process of proof read) only the students who are interested and talented in this process. When they finished a book, we told them to encourage everyone to applause.

Things to be consider in the next event

[edit]

It was vague to read some of the texts. So the next time we have to check that most of the pages are clear in advance.

it'll be easy if there was less tables like some other works..

Before that 20 students out of 26 they don't have basics computer knowledge. I am proud to say now they have some knowledge in computer. Some of them also have the ability to train others. So we have a plan to teach some of our school and college students nearby.
