CIS-A2K/Events/Launching of Mula Mutha Nadi Darshan 2023
CIS-A2K, in collaboration with Pune River Revival group has started Mula Mutha Nadi Darshan campaign cum photography contest on Wikimedia Commons from 15 May to 31 July. The aim of the contest is to document the Mula & Mutha rivers along with their tributaries in the Pune district on Wikimedia Commons in the form of images and videos. You can see more specific topics in the Rivers and topics section. In this campaign, partner organisations like, Jeevitnadi, Ecological Society, Samuchit Enviro Tech, Nisarg Sevak, National Society for Clean Cities etc. are actively participating.
Plan
[edit]The outreach activities will be conducted for educational institutes, citizen forums and social organisations to involve them in documentation of Mula & Mutha rivers in Pune on Wikimedia Commons. The awareness drives and technical training programs will be organised for the capacity building of participants. The best contributions will be awarded with suitable prizes and gifts. The challenge will be based on various aspects of the rivers such as - Beauty of the river, Religious places on the banks, Human activities in the rivers, Pollution in the rivers, Constructions in the rivers, Bridges on the rivers, Biodiversity in the rivers etc. The structure of categories on Commons will be developed with inputs from experts and activists.

[edit]- Major Constructions on the river: Metro construction, River front development project, bridges
- Other Constructions on the river bank: Roads in the riverbed, encroachments, parking spaces
- Citizens’ initiatives to save rivers: River walk, Clean up drives, Chipko andolan, Other protests
- River and human activities: Washing, Fishing, Boating
- Biodiversity and rivers: flora, fauna, wetlands, riparian zone
- Rivers and festivals: Ganesh visarjan, waari, and other celebrations
- Floods: Destruction and social impact, Flood levels, encroachment in river and its tributaries, constricted rivers
- Pollution in the rivers: Sewage, Solid waste, Industrial effluents, Waste water, Debris
Mula Mutha Nadi Darshan Team and Roles
[edit]The volunteers from Pune River Revival group will be responsible for various tasks explained below -
- Coordination - Overall process development, monitoring ( Rekha Joshi and Arati for field activities)
- Collaborations - Reaching out to other like minded groups, organisations and connecting them ( Santosh Lalwani)
- Promotion - Material preparation (flyers, short videos, posters, pressnotes), posting on social media/emails, press & media

- Documentation - Meeting notes, resolutions, archival of process, reports ( Rekha Joshi)
- Administration - Task management, reviews, schedule of meetings/training sessions, finance, selection & coordination of juries, distribution of prizes ( Rekha Joshi)
The technical and Wiki related inputs will be given by Subodh Kulkarni and Nitesh Gill from CIS-A2K team. The expert Wikimedians will be involved in training and processes on Wiki.
Launching of the photo contest
[edit]According to the schedule mutually decided, the meetings were held to discuss the various aspects of this contest. All the organisers provided their valuable inputs to design the processes. The first workshop on Wikimedia Commons was conducted by CIS-A2K members on 12 May before launching the contest. The flyers and social media posts have been created. The video tutorials on Wikimedia Commons uploading process are uploaded. The awareness campaign with civil society organisations involved in river revival efforts, alert citizen groups, photography clubs, photography course institutions etc. is in progress.
