- This event shall be carried out in association with the Women In Tech collectives (a Socio-Tech research organisation) and iGiver (a non-profit organisation) in collaboration with the CIS-A2K.
Purpose of the Event/Activity
[edit]- The objective of this event is to introduce Wikimedia and its sister projects to a group of students from a Technical background. Also to focus on a recurrent series of training focussed on Technical subjects to improve the technical and career skills for the students.

[edit]Program Venue: Shri Krishnaswamy College For Women,Chennai Time : 10 AM to 4:30 PM Agenda of the program:
- An introduction to Open Source and Open Knowledge movements and projects
- Introduction to Wikimedia and sister projects
- Brief introduction to Media Wiki and program outline for next 6 months
- An Interaction session with the students to map their career skills with Wikimedia projects.
Metrics:
- Number of students who would be contributing on Wikimedia technical projects: 15
- Number of students who would apply the Wikimedia technical skills in their careers: 10
- Number of students who identify themselves as women who shall attend this event: 30
- Blogpost about this event will be released.
Expected Outcomes from the Event/Activity planned
[edit]- This is an initiative to understand the Academic and industry skill gap and how learning and contributing on Wikimedia can bridge this gap.
- This program is targeted to understand how newcomers can understand and contribute towards the technical program.
- A course module which will be exclusively designed for this program shall be released for public use.
- Initial planning on research report that shall followup the program activities shall be discussed in this Orientation event.

[edit]- The event is planned to be a recurrent event for the next 6 months so this program shall focus on the inaguration and planning of the agenda for the follow up months.
- This program is aimed at widening the Technical Wikimedia communities in India and introduce more developers to the MediaWiki environment.
- Mentors shall be supporting the students using a Chat group channel to raise any questions or doubts that the students have regarding the Course.

Response
[edit]Proposed activity is part of a wider collaboration project that is being shaped up in collaboration between CIS-A2K, proposed community member and few other interested Tech community members.
