Short story about becoming a Wikipedia contributor
My experience as a beginner with Wikipedia has been wonderful. I was amazed to discover how easy it is to create or edit articles. Everything is so intuitive. Before this experience, I thought it was very difficult to join the ranks of Wikipedia contributors. However, when I saw how easy it was, I gained momentum. Currently, I have substantially developed an article that had only two paragraphs (Christian Existentialism) and initiated an article about the second leader of the Stoic school, Cleanthes of Assos, both of these articles are written in romanian language. With each development, I become more interested and passionate about the Wikipedia world.
I love how Wikipedia helps you easily get started as a contributor, even though you don’t know much about it. The exercise where you can simply indicate whether certain keywords should link to other articles or not seemed brilliant to me. It provides a strong incentive to work more. It's so easy to become captivated by the platform when you start to work in it.
Additionally, I found it beautiful to see other people contribute to what I write, even though one time I could not save my work because someone in the meanwhile edited that article. On another occasion, it was quite difficult for me to attach an image to an article, but just two days later when I revisited the article, someone had already added the picture and worked substantially on the page design. Even though I added the information, someone with experience probably used those well-known tools that give shape and pleasure reading the page. So it goes both ways.
I also liked that when citing a book, I can fill in separate boxes with the author's first name, last name, title, publisher, and page number, rather than having to use a specific citation format as is customary in scientific articles.
My sense of usefulness has increased with each contribution to Wikipedia. I hope I can continue to contribute as much as possible and help people gain knowledege in different subject areas. This is my short story about my experience in Wikipedia world. I hope it will benefit you.
