Bot policy/Implementation/elwiki
Below there is a translation of a discussion in elwiki for the acceptance of global bots:
Global bots
[edit]There has long been technically possible to give bot status to all wikis without local proceedings. Institutionaly global bot status is given to trusted bots to access every wiki that allows this. The requirements for global bots are:
- a global bot must only maintain interlanguage links or fix double-redirects
- a global bot must have already been active on several wikis, with long-term contributions demonstrating its trustworthiness.
To enable this function means that it will reduce the bureaucratic administration granting bot rights localy, since the overwhelming majority of requests for bot status are for interwiki maintenance.
Apart from the global bots there are also the opportunities to implement the standard policy for bots (not necessary, we can maintain our own that it's not much different) and to allow automatic bot approval by stewards (which I think is better to avoid in order to maintain a little control to prevent massive flood of new bots). Currently my proposal is only about global bots.
If there are no objections to allow global bots in Greek Wikipedia, I will add this in our policy at the end of the week. - Geraki 19:39, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
I agree to allow global bots. - FocalPoint 20:42, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
I agree, if you believe that there is no reason not to trust the process, I see no reason not to apply. Apart from this, just of curiosity, if there is something wrong is it possible for a global bot to be blocked locally? - Egmontaz 20:56, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, any account can be blocked locally. There is no difference from local bots. - Geraki 09:49, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
