Bangla WikiConnect

Bangla WikiConnect is dedicated to enriching free knowledge across multiple platforms, including Bangla Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, and Wikiquote. As a community-driven initiative, we organize a variety of edit-a-thons, writing contests, and workshops each year. Our goal is to expand and improve Bengali-language content on Wikimedia projects while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages community participation.
Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality information by supporting both new and experienced editors through structured projects and training initiatives. By doing so, we aim to sustain the growth of the free knowledge movement and strengthen the presence of Bengali-language resources on Wikimedia platforms. We also collaborate with the Wikimedia Bangladesh Foundation and WikiNandini, a women’s wiki group, to maximize our impact.
In the past, members of the Bangla Wikimedia community organized numerous individual events. However, these independent initiatives often faced challenges, including funding issues, scheduling conflicts with other events, communication gaps, and a lack of necessary skills.
To address these challenges, Bangla WikiConnect was established with the consensus of all organizers. It brings everyone under one umbrella to implement long-term, well-organized plans. This structure not only ensures better coordination of events but also promotes skill enhancement and the transfer of experience from seasoned organizers to newcomers.
Under this project, each event will have a dedicated team that can independently manage its activities while receiving comprehensive support from the core team. To further empower organizers, we will provide proper training and resources, fostering their growth and effectiveness.
We aim to organize 7–8 contests annually across Bangla Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, and Wikiquote. Through these efforts, we strive to create more opportunities for community engagement and content improvement.
Additionally, we will train organizers to develop their skills and provide them with the necessary resources to run successful events. To make Wikipedia editing more accessible, we plan to create a complete playlist of video tutorials that will guide both new and experienced editors through various aspects of editing and content creation.
