The code for azimuthal projections isn't complete, but in many cases they are a lot nicer than cylindrical ones.
Here's the azimuthal equal-area (Lambert) projection of hemisphere around point 0N 0E. Azimuthal projection is basically a map projection in which a region of the earth is projected on to a plane tangential to the surface, usually at a pole or the equator.
