Asia Democracy Month 2020

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Concept

I think that is my duty...

Asia, the most populated continent on the earth, holds a colorful history and many different cultures. Therefore, it isn’t hard to imagine that the development of democracy in Asia often rises from a very complex cultural context and historical background. Until today, the cruel, complex, and often self-contradictory process of democracy is still actively being developed.

2020 is a special year for many Asia social movement and democracy activities, such as: It is the Gwangju Democratization Movement’s 40th anniversary (South Korea 1980), Wild Lily student movement’s 30th anniversary (Taiwan 1990), and the Hong Kong anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement one-year anniversary, etc.

Hence, in this special year, we will hold the Wikipedia Asian Month 2020 sub-contest called Asia Democracy Month, started from November 1st to November 30. We hope that by encouraging participants to upload relative information of Asia democracy development to the Wikimedia platform, we can save these important moments of history for people to witness.
