AfroCreatives WikiProject/Volunteers

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Did you know that only 1.5% of contributors and 15% of contributions on Wikipedia originate from Africa?

AfroCreatives WIkiProject +film is looking for experienced facilitators who are interested in joining our cause to help close the African cinema gap on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

Sign up below to let us know your interest in contributing as either a juror or local organizer and we’ll be in touch.

2022 facilitators

We are currently seeking Wikipedians to serve as Jurors for our upcoming AfroCreatives WikiProject +film edit-a-thon campaign taking place in July 2022. We are interested in volunteers who edit the French, English or Arabic Wikipedia. Wikipedians from Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda and Senegal are especially encouraged to sign up.

What is the jury?

The jury is an essential part of the review process to determine winners of the various award buckets or categories. Their main obligation is to grade/score articles based on the campaign scoring rubric.

Who can be on the jury?

  1. Experienced Wikimedians with at least 1000 edits and 10 articles created in the language Wikipedia in which they are expected to be a jury member. For example, a juror for Senegal which centers around the French Wikipedia should have met the aforementioned criteria to be a part of the jury.
  2. Wikipedians who have been on the jury for other Wikipedia edit-a-thons or with a track record of completing the role of a jury on other Wikiprojects are a good fit.
  3. Participants of the campaign, facilitators or local leads can not be part of the jury. This is to avoid conflict of interest and remove biases when reviewing article submissions.

Role(s) of the jury

Each jury member will be allocated a portion of entry submissions in their target language.

The jury will:

  • Disqualify/ignore any edits that are made after the deadline of the contest.
  • Grade submissions based on scoring rubric
  • Ensure timely review of contributions and selection of award winners within stipulated review period.

The Wikimedian-in-Residence will host a session with the selected panel of jurors to review the judging process and address any questions prior to the start of judging.

Deadlines

  • The results of the edit-a-thon contest will be published within 4 weeks of the campaign’s conclusion.
