African Librarians Week 2023 which is an integral part of the global 1Librarian 1Reference campaign will start from 14th - 26th May, 2023. It is an exciting period where African library and information professionals concertedly provide reliable and factual information to the world. Librarians in NLA, Anambra State Chapter will update Wikipedia articles about Africa and African scholars in all disciplines with citations and references. Using the hashtag #AfLibWk as well as #1Lib1Ref. The theme for 2023 is - African Knowledge to the World.

This is a unique opportunity to promote the open knowledge ecosystem through Wikipedia and sister projects and make African history, culture, heritage and our realities more visible and accessible. This year, contributions on Wikipedia, Wikidata and wiki commons will be tracked from the dashboard and through the use of #AfLibWk and #1Lib1Ref hashtags.

Events and Participation

A few trainings have been organized and facilitated to prep and equip Anambra State librarians in participating fully in the campaign. The training includes; Basic Wikipedia Training for Librarians in Anambra State event dashboard a webinar by Ngostary2k, AfricanLibrarian and Obuezie on how to create a Wikipedia account and make simple edits in Wikipedia; our community Lens: Rain and Environment in South-East Zone, a Wikiloves Africa in Anambra 2023 event. This was a photo walk, where participants were trained on how to focus their lenses and take nice pictures of rain and the environment as well as upload captured images to wiki Commons. The images were captured and uploaded to the wiki Commons on a time-line. Other hands-on virtual training followed which was organized by the African Library Associations and Institutions where Anambra State Librarians formed a significant part of the active participants. Further webinars will take place as the need arises as a follow-up for the campaign.

Guidelines

The event dashboard will stop recording the edits at exactly 00:00 hours on the 26th of May, 2023. All contributions will be tracked from the outreach dashboard till the end of the event. Five Winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th) with the highest quality and complete contributions, would be awarded with gift vouchers worth:

  • 1st: Gift voucher worth N15,000
  • 2nd: Gift voucher worth N10,000
  • 3rd: Gift voucher worth N7,000
  • 4th: Gift voucher worth N5,000
  • 5th: Gift voucher worth N3,000

Other consolation prizes

The gift voucher would stand as recognition for contributing to one of the largest knowledge spaces in the world and making the resources better. It will motivate active engagement in the movement.
