African Health Initiative/Letter of Intent

To: Wikimedia Affiliates and the Global Wikimedia Community Dear Wikimedia Affiliates and Community Members,

We are excited to announce our intent to form the African Health Iniative, a new Wikimedia user group targeted at bridging the health content gap in Africa and uniting health editors from Africa in the Wiki space.

Mission

Our mission is to bridge the health knowledge gap in Africa, and to devise ways to provide support for new health editors in Africa. We aim to identify challenges and solutions to false health information on-wiki and in Africa through collaboration with local health institutions across Africa

Focus Area

Our group will primarily focus on:

Languages: English and African languages such as Yoruba, Swahili, Oromo and igbo

Themes: African health and medical content

Geographical Region: African community

Current Location and Regional Activities
We are currently based in the Nigeria and building a vibrant health editors Wikimedia community through outreach, edit-a-thons, and workshops. We plan to continue collaboration with local health institutions, medical centres , teaching hospitals to ensure diverse participation and sustainable contributions.
Call for Collaboration

We welcome collaboration and support from other affiliates and individuals across the Wikimedia movement. We believe that working together with other user groups and affiliates will enhance our efforts and strengthen the global Wikimedia ecosystem.
