Affiliations Committee/Resolutions/Wikimania 2013 scholarships – May 2013

Considering that

• It is within the scope of the Affiliations Committee to encourage and support the creation of new affiliates;

• Wikimania is the main Wikimedia event on a global scale that brings together Wikimedians from around the world;

• Attending Wikimania is a great opportunity to meet other Wikimedians and exchange experiences and come up with new ideas;

• Some Wikimedians who are actively involved with the creation of their chapters were not awarded with a scholarship;

• The Affiliations Committee has considered which candidate affiliate organizations have no or little known presence at Wikimania 2013 that would also be helped in their recognition and/or maturing process by having one of their core team members participate in Wikimania;

• Further factors of consideration in selecting scholars included scores awarded by the Wikimania Scholarship Committee, previous Wikimania participation and personal recommendations of Affiliations Committee members and scholars under consideration.

It is hereby resolved that:

• The Affiliations Committee will sponsor the participation of a member of Wikimedia Bolivia and a member of Wikimedia Slovakia at Wikimania 2013;

• The Affiliations Committee asks the scholars to provide a report of their Wikimania participation in their own language to their communities, within thirty days of the end of the event;

• The Affiliations Committee asks the scholars to provide a summary of said report in English to the Committee as well, within thirty days of the end of the event;

• The Affiliations Committee asks the Wikimedia Foundation to execute all duties related to the scholarships and to deduct any amounts expended from the Affiliations Committee's budget allocation.
