What languages do you speak, and at what fluency level? (Please include your English proficiency.) | Bangla (Native), English (Fluent), Hindi (Conversational)
What region(s) of the world do you have experience with, and what kind of experience do you have? (“Experience” can mean you have lived or worked there or are currently living or working there; you’re familiar with the culture and language; etc.) | I live in Bangladesh. I travelled and worked with volunteers from various parts of South Asia. Being a south asian, I am well acquainted with the culture, language, economic, political situations and legal matters.
What Wikimedia project(s) do you actively edit? And in what language(s)? | I seldom edit in Bangla Wikipedia, Bangla WikiSource and Wikimedia Commons. My primary role is to focus on off-wiki activities such as chapter governance, strategic planning, outreach design, facilitating training and organising wikimedia related events.
What affiliate(s) are you actively involved with? In what capacity are you involved? Do you serve in a leadership role or have you in the past? | I am one of the founding members of Wikimedia Bangladesh Chapter (aff. 2011). I served various leadership positions within the chapter. I served 2 terms as the president of Wikimedia Bangladesh and am currently serving the 3rd term.
Have you served on any committees (movement-related or otherwise)? And what was your role on the committee(s)? | I am serving as a member of the Regional Fund Committee for South Asia since 2021. I also served in the programs sub-committee of Wikimania 2023 and WikiConference India 2023. I was the lead organiser of Bangla WikiConference 2024.
Please describe any experience you have with conflict resolution and/or consensus building. | I have experience on internal conflict resolution within the chapter. I also completed 10 weeks training on Nonviolent Communication and 6 weeks training on CoResolve (Deep Democracy).
In your ideal world, what does the affiliate model and ecosystem look like? | I would love to see more collaborations than competition between affiliates. Different parts of the world have different sets of challenges. So, in an ideal ecosystem, one should be able to deal with each situation with patience, empathy and innovation.
In your ideal world, what are AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates? | In my opinion, AffCom should not only be the body for recognizing or derecognizing the affiliates but also be the guiding body to capacity building for the affiliates. I see many promising affiliates struggle during the growth period due to lack of experience, which often results in conflicts and bad governance models. AffCom should have an infrastructure that will enable the affiliates to acquire skills of conflict resolution and good governance.
What role within AffCom are you most interested in: advisory or voting member? | Voting Member. Also fine to join as an advisory member if offered. |
