In your ideal world, what does the affiliate model and ecosystem look like? | Capacity Building and Mentorship: There would be strong mentorship programs for new contributors, especially those from rural areas or less digitally connected regions. Experienced Santali Wikipedians could mentor newcomers, helping them navigate Wikipedia's editing norms and encouraging them to engage in content creation. Regular trainings and workshops would be organized to ensure the community is up-to-date with best practices in editing, sourcing, and translating content.
Global Integration with Local Needs: While global initiatives (like Wikimedia Foundation campaigns) are vital, the ideal affiliate ecosystem would integrate local needs with global priorities. This means ensuring that Santali-language content, as well as similar underrepresented languages, have a distinct voice at global Wikimedia events like Wikimania, and ensuring local stories and knowledge are integrated into global campaigns. | |
In your ideal world, what are AffCom’s roles and responsibilities in relation to the movement and affiliates? | AffCom should connect affiliates to the broader Wikimedia movement, ensuring they have access to global networks and events. This includes supporting affiliates in representing their languages and cultures at Wikimania or global conferences, ensuring that smaller language communities are not left behind. They can serve as the link between local movements and the global Wikimedia Foundation, advocating for their needs and aspirations. | |
