Wiki Loves Women ToolKit Event

Event checklist

[edit]

IDENTIFY A TEAM. It is easier to organise an event as a team of 2-5 people than all alone. Each organiser skills add up, it is more fun, and during the event, it is clearly easier to deal with everyone needs and requests.

FIND A VENUE. We encourage you to use a free, public space for your event. A WLW event is a perfect program for libraries, museums, universities, community led co-working spaces, or simply a partnering NGO. Look into local public institutions and ask if they would be interested in partnering with you or adding the Edit-a-thon to their list of programs for the year.

SECURE THE DATE AND TIME Consider your audience: schools often choose a weekday like Friday. NGOs may prefer a week-end. Identify the best day and the time. We recommand at least 3 hours. It is often a good idea to include a time slot for a shared meal.

CREATE YOUR WIKIPEDIA USERNAME AND PASSWORD Don’t have an account on Wikipedia? Create a username and password using this link.

REGISTER YOUR EVENT ON THE DASHBOARD The Dashboard is a tool we use to track edits to articles during edit-a-thons. It is also a great tool to track the activity of each participant, during and after the event. Once you tried it, you will not be able to do an event without it. You can find it here. We also made this step by step guide that shows you how to use it. You’ll need your Wikipedia username and password that you just created to sign-in to the Dashboard.

SUBMIT YOUR EVENT DETAILS Wiki page
