Help test better mass message delivery
[edit]Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)
For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)
You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}}
parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}}
or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}
. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.
If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:27, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Beginning of MassMessage, end of EdwardsBot
[edit]Hi. You're being contacted as you're listed as an EdwardsBot user.
MassMessage has been deployed to all Wikimedia wikis. For help using the new tool, please check out its help page or drop a note on Meta-Wiki.
With over 400,000 edits to Wikimedia wikis, EdwardsBot has served us well; however EdwardsBot will no longer perform local or global message delivery after December 31, 2013.
A huge thanks to Legoktm, Reedy, Aaron Schulz and everyone else who helped to get MassMessage deployed. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi Vitorvicentevalente, I have just noticed that you've been working on the translation of Tech News today.
I wanted to ask you to consider refraining from translating such pages to avoid supporting the recent actions of the Wikimedia Foundation. On Sunday, they have implemented a change that gives them an unprecedented, unilateral and unlimited power to protect certain pages on Wikimedia wikis in a manner that makes it impossible for all volunteers — including locally elected administrators — to edit them.
The change was secretly forced through without any community consultation, and the Foundation have used this new feature to actively fight the volunteer community of the German Wikipedia.
Your volunteer translations directly sustain such actions of the Foundation. Your work helps them save time and effort that they would otherwise have to invest in recruiting, training and managing new employees, and saves them money they would otherwise have to spend on professional translations.
The recent actions of the Wikimedia Foundation make it very clear that they no longer respect the wishes of the volunteer community, and that they no longer consider us an equal partner. The least we can do to voice our dismay at those actions, and to support our colleagues on the German Wikipedia, is to stop investing our precious time as volunteers on directly helping the Wikimedia Foundation. We can instead translate pages which help all wiki users.
Please take a minute to consider withdrawing your help for the Foundation in protest against their disrespectful treatment of the volunteer community of the German Wikipedia.
Thank you for your time and your consideration! odder (talk) 18:15, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Ready for translation: VisualEditor News #10—2014
[edit]Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the December's issue of the VisualEditor monthly newsletter, which will be widely delivered later this week. The amazing translators' community has already found out about it prior to this announcement... But how is your language doing this time? Find out now and contribute! Thanks a lot for your help! Elitre (WMF) 07:35, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
PS: Here are some instructions. Please go to the translation page: your language should be available from the drop-down menu on the right. Once you've selected it, you'll see the document in English side by side with any translation work already done in your language. You can add new translations or modify existing ones. If you need further help or would like to receive a talk page message to be notified of future translations, please contact me directly.

[edit]Hi! Apologies if you're reading this message more than once. This is an invitation to join translators working on the February's issue of the VisualEditor multilingual newsletter. This time it features an important announcement about a series of meetings where VE tasks on Phabricator will be triaged live and publicly, starting next week. Since we want many people to be aware of this ASAP (especially volunteer developers!), we have a time constraint which means we'll deliver to the wikis on Thursday morning PST this week. Thanks a lot in advance, we know you'll do whatever it takes to keep your community up-to-date, and appreciate it a lot. m:User:Elitre (WMF), 22:08, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the April's issue of the VisualEditor monthly newsletter, which will be widely delivered towards the end of next week. The previous bulletin was published in 26 languages—the translation was completed only for ten of them. Will we do better this month? We'd like to reach many more communities in their own language this time, as VE recently became the main editor at other 50+ Wikipedias, and we're announcing interesting developments (auto-fill features for citations, improved special character inserter, drag and drop for categories, invisible templates now marked by a puzzle piece icon, and more). Thanks a lot for your help! Elitre (WMF) 22:38, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! This is an invitation to join translators working on the June's issue of the VisualEditor multilingual newsletter, which will be widely delivered at the end of this workweek. You may have noticed that the bulletin is now getting published once every two months more or less, but we're keeping the length manageable ;) Thanks a lot for your help! — Elitre (WMF) 17:41, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

PPS: Also, watch out for announcements of the upcoming VE-translathon! Everybody getting this message will be particularly welcome to join that activity during Wikimania.
Early invitation: join VisualEditor's 2015 Translathon
[edit]Hello!
You are invited to join the 2nd edition of the VisualEditor Translathon! It is a translation rally, focused on interface messages and help pages related to VisualEditor.
In order to participate, you need to sign up on the Translathon page. The top 3 contributors will each win a Wikipedia t-shirt of their choice from the Wikipedia store.[1] Translations made between July 15th and July 19th (CDT time zone) qualify.[2]
If you are attending Wikimania Mexico this year, you are also welcome to join a related sprint during the Hackathon in Workplace 1 - Don Américo, Thursday 16 July at 4:00 p.m (CDT) at the conference venue, so you can meet other fellow translators and get support if you need some.
Interface messages have the priority. You will need to create an account at translatewiki.net in order to work on them, if you don't have one. It is recommended to create the account ASAP, so that it can be manually confirmed in time.
You can also help translate documentation pages about VisualEditor on mediawiki.org. You can use your Wikipedia account there. You will find instructions, links and other details on the Translathon page.
Thanks for your attention, and happy translating! Elitre (WMF) 02:59, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Tech News
[edit]As the year, at least according to the calendar used by Tech News, is drawing to end, I wanted to say thanks for the Tech News translations – both as a person writing Tech News and a Wikimedia editor who cares about the movement. It’s difficult enough to keep track of what’s happening if one speaks English. I’m happy there’s one place to get a weekly update of what’s happening if one doesn’t. The one true international language is translation. Thank you. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 13:37, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
