The Community Wishlist Survey

[edit]

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

[Small wiki toolkits] Final feedback survey

[edit]

Hello! You are receiving this message as you have attended a small wiki toolkit workshop this year. If you missed attending our last feedback session on the small wiki toolkits workshops, here is a short survey that you could fill out to let us know your technical learning needs and ideas and suggestions for improving the workshop format for the next year. If you attended the feedback session, you can still fill out the survey to share ideas that you couldn't do so more anonymously during our meeting last week. We look forward to learning from your suggestions and including them in the planning for next year. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVhqgZYXQG8Fgw25xRS0n7eKMleOKy5i1tM5Ty3mGACtcTag/viewform. Thank you for participating in the small wiki toolkits workshops this year!

Small Wiki Toolkits Badge

Hey there! Thank you for participating in the Small Wiki Toolkits workshops this year - it was pretty cool having you around :) We have a small token of appreciation for you in the form of a badge that you can add to your user page! We are still going over the workshops organized this year, so we’ll update you early next year with our future plans. See you in 2023! Multilingual Wikisource not listed in Commons data?

[edit]

Am I missing something, or is the Multilingual Wikisource not included in the data table at commons:Data:Wikipedia statistics/data.tab? (It's not listed at Wikisource/Table, either. Note that the wiki contains "actual content" that doesn't belong in any other language-specific Wikisource. It's not like it's merely a test-wiki incubator, like Beta Wikiversity.)

Looks like you're getting the list of wikis from (the equivalent of) Special:SiteMatrix, where the wiki in question is listed as a "special" wiki under the name "sources". To be more specific, here's the relevant API output, formatted as XML:

<special url="https://wikisource.org" dbname="sourceswiki" code="sources" lang="sources" sitename="Wikisource" />

I was not aware wikisource.org has its own Wiki. My program currently requires a hostname so I added it as www.wikisource.org which is a CNAME to wikisource.org .. let's see if that works on the next update of data.tab -- GreenC (talk) 04:20, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
dcljr, it does appear to be working now. If you see any problems let me know, thanks for the notice. -- GreenC (talk) 17:04, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Heh… Looks like that change has caused a bit of an issue with "derivative works" based on that data. See, for example, how Wikisource/Table looked before I changed it. I don't know what other things might need similar fixes. - dcljr (talk) 13:23, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually, using "mul.wikisource" is probably a better way to go, since "mul" is a valid ISO 639-2 and 639-3 language code (for "multiple langauges") and https://mul.wikisource.org/ and s:mul: are already supported. Some "downstream" changes would still need to be made taking this approach, but perhaps not quite as many. - dcljr (talk) 22:27, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com access is being restored

[edit]

You are receiving this message because our records indicate that you used Newspapers.com via The Wikipedia Library in the past year. Newspapers.com has been affected by a number of technical issues over that time period, which most recently caused it not to work at all. If you aren't already familiar, further details can be found at T322916.

We're pleased to share that we have found a solution which will restore access to Newspapers.com's content! Newspapers.com have agreed to move back to our old method of granting access, whereby users must first register at Newspapers.com, then apply via The Wikipedia Library, and then accounts are upgraded to a subscribing one by Newspapers.com. We have updated Newspapers.com to accept applications in the library, so you can apply now!

This change is unfortunately mutually exclusive with the limited proxy-based access working, so any of the technical workarounds that have been discussed should no longer work, along with any proxy-based access to Newspapers.com. I hope you agree that this brief bump will be worth it in the long run.

As a reminder, this change means that you will need to renew your access on a yearly basis. If you have an email configured in The Wikipedia Library you should receive an email a few weeks before this expiry to remind you to submit an extension request, but brief yearly loss of access may be a side effect of this access method. The good news is that this access method means that you shouldn't encounter any technical problems besides normal operational problems on Newspapers.com's end, which should be few and resolved quickly - otherwise the website should work just as if you were a normal customer.

If you have any questions please ask them at this Meta announcement. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:39, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Book URLs for verifiability

[edit]

Hi. Your bot account GreenC bot is mentioned in some IABot edit summaries, e.g. here. This makes me wonder if this task being run under IABot account is intentional. If you run this other task semi-automatically then could you perhaps use your own bot account for this (on wikis where approved, of course)?
