Re: Pet projects
[edit]Thanks for your comments. I must say your points are very procedural and are very detached from what any Wikimedia editor, donor or supporter would probably say; but that's ok. Do you really not know what pet projects were shut down (I can think of several)? If your question is not rhetoric, how do you expect an answer to be provided in a non-insulting way? I suggest that you or someone else makes a list here on Meta of the projects that were shut down out of Lila's will (I can't make such a list because certainly someone from staff would retort "she just didn't oppose X and Y but it was all a team decision"), then I offer to classify them as pet projects. And then of course other people can edit. :) Nemo 08:26, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- That question is not at all rhetorical. The only high-profile tech project I know of being "shut down" was Flow, and we're being constantly told that's alive and well being maintained, not shut down. Are these non-technical projects she's talking about? --brion (talk) 13:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- I could certainly list more projects than that. Some of them I happily contributed burying. Nemo 19:37, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- That'd be great, I'd love to see such a list. --brion (talk) 19:42, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
- I may publish such a list on my own but I need to decide how blunt to be about failures, involved people and zombies (dead projects which pretend to be alive). In the meanwhile, thanks to mw:Template talk:Wikimedia engineering project information and phabricator:T98358#1892507, mw:Category:WMF Projects subcategories can be a decent overview of the changes in active projects over time. People can help by setting more end dates. Nemo 00:40, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. Do be blunt about projects that seem moribund or broken, I'd like a better view of that landscape and how people see things. I prefer language that concentrates on projects and outcomes rather than personalities, but I know personality conflicts are sometimes an issue in these things, and would appreciate honesty on that. --brion (talk) 00:48, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
Barnstar of integrity
