Welcome to the editor sanctions noticeboard. This page is for posting questions about topic bans, interaction bans and other sanctions. Absolutely nothing said here will be considered a topic ban violation.
However, all other ordinary rules concerning civility, conduct and WM:NOT still apply:
  1. Meta is not a battleground
  2. Meta is not a forum for continued attacks against other users
  3. Meta is not an appeals court

Please try to keep discussions focused on ways we can help each other. To keep this board runing smoothly and to prevent it becoming a battleground ... <<GUIDELINES PENDING>> See Proposals to help ensure it complies with WM:NOT

  • You may NOT use this page to request that other editors make changes to pages from which you are banned (see WP:PROXYING).
  • You MAY ask about procedure, gray-area edits, preparing complaints, preparing appeals or anything else that you need to know about your or someone else's sanctions.
  • This is not a forum for general discussion of banned topics. This is not itself an appeal board.
  • Threads that merely reiterate statements made in any previous discussion may be deleted by any uninvolved party. This applies to both sanctioned editors and complainants.
While we attempt to offer a second opinion, and the consensus of several editors can generally be relied upon, answers are not official policy.

This is a mockup of a proposed idea

[edit]

The Idea Lab proposal can be found here. One of many ways to bring it to fruition would be to make a noticeboard like this one. Feel free to comment there and participate. Darkfrog24 (talk) 02:47, 16 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

There is now a Request for Comment under way concerning the creation of this page. Darkfrog24 (talk) 01:10, 29 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sample question 1: Block party

[edit]

I was sanctioned at AE and given an indefinite block, but it says at sanctions.user that AE blocks can be only "up to one year in duration." Whaaaaaat?????? BlockedFella (talk) 25:16, 31 February 2016 (UTC)

While the official limit on AE blocks is one year, that just means that they automatically become normal indef. blocks after that. That means that during the first twelve months you can be unblocked only 1) by the enforcing admin or 2) by an AE appeal or 3) by a successful ArbCom appeal. Once it becomes a normal indef. block, you become eligible to try the regular unblock system (if not already unblocked by then). AnswerChick 25:28, 31 February 2016 (UTC)
It looks like you're really asking whether the blocking admin broke the rules or made a mistake. Actually, the admins have been interpreting the length limit this way for years. No one made up a new rule just to mess with you. InfoDude 25:31, 31 February 2016 (UTC)
Phew! Now I don't have to annoy my enforcing admin by asking what he or she would surely see as a confrontational question, even though I don't mean it like that and really do need to know! BlockedFella (talk) 25:58, 31 February 2016 (UTC)
And I don't have to be annoyed! ...I am so overworked... TiredAdmin (talk) 25:59, 31 February 2016 (UTC)

Sample question 2: GMgO or GMnO?

[edit]

User NoFrankenFood was topic-banned from GMOs last year, but he's been writing about the Seeds n' Stuff Inc. lawsuit the whole time! Where's the best place to report NFF for violating this sanction? GroMO (talk) 24:16, 31 November 2016 (UTC)

You're probably thinking of Arbitration Enforcement, but you should know that the standard-issue GMO topic ban did not cover the companies that make GMOs until this year. The text "and the companies that produce [GMOs]" was only later added to the sanction [1]. NFF might not be violating the topic ban so long as the lawsuit isn't about GMOs. InformaGal (talk) 24:75, 31 November 2016 (UTC)
Hm. No, it's not. Well you saved me the trouble of filing a complaint that would have been thrown out with no action.GroMO (talk) 25:16, 31 November 2016 (UTC)
And me the distraction and humiliation of an AE filing! NoFrankenFood (talk) 27:02, 31 Janutember 2016 (UTC)
And me the effort of dealing with it! TiredAdmin (talk) 00:92, 29 Febutober 2017 (UTC)
