Communication channels for observing
[edit]Hello. I am interested in following this initiative as [at least] an observer (and possibly as collaborator as well). What are the communication channels beyond this page, if any? When is the next meeting? Asaf (WMF) (talk) 11:54, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Asaf! Sorry this passed under the radar (please ping page editors :-)
- We try to meet on Mondays 14:30 UTC, but just had a bit of break due to constelation of public, religious and personal hollidays + circumstances, so we will invite you to the next zoom meet as we gather...likely in Monday after this. As for public channels I would still hope wmCHAT, but I am biased to open standards :-) --Zblace (talk) 07:56, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, I look forward to it. I'm happy to use the chat server on the Wikimedia Cloud, if that's where discussion would take place. Asaf (WMF) (talk) 13:18, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
What is the difference between this and Let's Connect?
[edit]I'm new to this project, but it seems to me that this is similar in intent and even format to Let's Connect, being run by the WMF Grants team. Can someone help me understand the difference? RWeissburg (WMF) (talk) 16:18, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @RWeissburg (WMF) - sorry we did not get back to you earlier on this, I guess it was an oversight. First, thank you for taking close look into our initiative > project...hope you will remain interested as we move faster and more ambitious in 2023.
- As far as I know we have significant differences in terms of scale, aspiration and scope. We were focusing on connecting individuals to individuals for peer to per exchange, regardless of their background, while Let's Connect I think has focus on groups and initiatives that already passed a certain treshold of socializing, self-oganizing and coordinating their work with others in Wikimedia. In that respect we are bottom up and more generic meeting point *(somewhat of a human directory with added values, hopefully for all). We also do not operate around any specific resources, so can not alocate or support extensivly anyone beyond facilitation of connections. As a service point I guess we are of use to Let's Connect and they are useful to us as someone who has started also gathering information we could make use of in our website.
- Things can change in the future with either of us and our coordinated and collaborative efforts, but this was more-less state of affairs so far.
- Best wishes -- Zblace (talk) 14:10, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Zblace! I've shared this response with @jstephenson (WMF)because I want to make sure that we're building things that are useful for the movement, not duplicative. Thank you for engaging! RWeissburg (WMF) (talk) 17:42, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- @RWeissburg (WMF) thank you for your care and concerns, but we are already in touch since a while, coordinating and collaborating on specific issues. --Zblace (talk) 06:58, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
