What advocacy resources would help you?

[edit]

The WMF Global Advocacy team is trying to improve the resources that we offer on this page. Please help us help you! What kind of resources do you want to see on this page? Do you want toolkits, templates, examples of other Wikimedians' campaign work (like open letters, speeches to parliament, submissions to calls for evidence)? How can we best organize that information so that it is convenient for you to access? Please share your thoughts. FPutz (WMF) (talk) 11:11, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

We finished a mapping of how Wikimedians have advocated for changes to copyright legislation around the world since 2016. What should we do next?

In September 2023 the Global Advocacy team completed a mapping of the public policy advocacy initiatives that Wikimedians have pursued related to copyright since 2016. The intention was to learn about our movement’s shared copyright priorities, the common obstacles that communities face, and the campaign materials (as well as other resources) that Wikimedians have created or are creating as part of their efforts to improve legislation about copyright. We talked to 30 Wikimedians. We collected all their campaign material and work into one centralized location: a big table on Meta-Wiki. We also published our findings in a diff blog.

How else can we, as a movement, use this information and the learnings? What shall we do next to help Wikimedians advocate for open and flexible copyright policy at the government level? Some options:

  • Host regular calls related to copyright advocacy so that Wikimedians can present what they're working on and discuss common challenges and ideas.
  • Help Wikimedians run workshops on advocacy skills they wish to improve.
  • WMF and Wikimedians produce simple position papers and talking points about 5 copyright priorities.
