Welcome to the talk page of the Celtic Knot Conference 2022! On this page, the organizers will post updates about the event, and you can also ask questions or make suggestions for the conference.

Guidelines for video?

[edit]

What guidance do you have for video submissions?

Suggested time? Anything more, or are you taking what contributors feel fits? Thanks. Bluerasberry (talk) 01:26, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Bluerasberry: and apologies for the delayed answer.
The main way to contribute to the program for this edition will be through the News from the Communities lightning talks: you will find all the relevant information and guidance on this page. Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 11:56, 22 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Celtic Knot Conference: program contributions and onsite events

[edit]

Hello all,

As previously announced, the Celtic Knot Wikimedia Language Conference will take place on July 1-2, with the goal of gathering participants from various groups working on minority languages on the Wikimedia projects. In this update, we would like to share with you some exciting news about the format, the onsite events, and how your community can contribute to the program of the conference.

If you know people or groups who are working on minority languages and could be interested in this event, feel free to share this message with them!

Contribute to the “News from the Language Communities”

For this year’s edition of the conference, the main call for contributions from the community takes the shape of a series of lightning talks called “News from the Language Communities”. The goals of these short presentations are to give an overview of ongoing projects and work related to minority languages and the Wikimedia projects, to give an update about what happened in the past year, to share lessons learned that could be useful to other groups working on similar projects, and to start conversations among participants.

Individuals or groups who would like to contribute to this part of the program are welcome to prepare and send their presentation in the form of a 5-minute pre-recorded video, before May 31. You will find more information about the content, requirements and support offered by the organizers on Celtic_Knot_Conference_2022/Online_program.

☘ Format

Although international events and travels are possible again, we made the decision to stick to a hybrid format. The main program will take place online on July 1-2, and we will actively encourage communities who want to organize local gatherings as satellite events of the conference. Although restrictions have loosen up in several countries, we want to acknowledge that the pandemic is still going on in most of the world, and that international travel remains difficult from many countries, especially for financial or paperwork reasons. Therefore, we believe that an online format remains the best solution in order to ensure the best possible diversity of participants.

☘ Onsite events and scholarships

We are offering two kinds of scholarship around the conference: scholarships to help with online participation and scholarships to help with organising onsite events. The aim is to help people take part in the live conference, and to give people a way to organise events in their area related to the Celtic Knot.

Onsite event grants are for up to £1,000, with some ideas and more detail on Celtic_Knot_Conference_2022/Satellite_events.

Online attendance scholarships are for up to £80 per person. Full details of the process, and a link to the application form are on Celtic_Knot_Conference_2022/Attend#Scholarships.

We’re looking forward to your contribution to the Celtic Knot! If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me, Daria Cybulska or Richard Nevell.

Celtic Knot Conference: registration and program

[edit]

Hello all,

On behalf of the Celtic Knot Conference organization team, I’m happy to share some exciting news about the online event, taking place in less than one month!

☘ You can now register for the online conference

The registration form is now available and will remain open until and during the conference, taking place online on July 1-2. Attendance is free of charge and doesn’t include the satellite events that may be organized by individuals or groups before or after the main program.

Please note that registration is necessary to attend most of the sessions of the conference, especially the 4 workshops that we offer during the event. For each workshop, you have two options:

  • Sign up as an active participant: you will be able to enable your microphone and camera, share your screen, interact directly with the speakers, and your participation will appear in the livestream for all participants (limited spots available) ;
  • Join as a watcher: your sound and image don’t appear on the recording, and you can interact with others via the chat.

☘ A first glimpse of the program

On the program page, you can now see what the structure of the online event will look like: a light program with one track and a lot of time to take breaks and watch the asynchronous content of the conference.

We selected a few important topics out of the requests expressed in the community survey, and we are currently working with experienced community leaders to offer four workshops that will allow participants to upgrade their skills and help their project grow:

  • Community growth
  • Organize or join an editing campaign
  • Databox, the simple Wikidata-powered infobox
  • Translate Wikidata properties in your languages

If you’re interested in one or several of these workshops, don’t forget to register!

As previously communicated, the collaborative part of the program takes the shape of the “News from the Language Communities” session, where various groups will present what they have been working on over the past year. More information about these presentations will be added on the program page in the next few weeks.

☘ Connect with participants

When you fill in the registration form, no data will be shared publicly ; if you want to let other people know that you will attend the event, feel free to add your name on the participants list.

To start connecting with other attendees ahead of the conference, you can also join our social channels.

We’re looking forward to seeing you soon at the Celtic Knot! If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me, Daria Cybulska or Richard Nevell.

WorkAdventure

[edit]

I wish a WorkAdventurePlatform or another kind of social site to interact virtual with other people through the celtic knot conference. In Germany some Hackerspaces have Workadventureinstances and I think it is possible to ask a Hackerspace if it is allowed to use their installation to interact with other people during the Celtic Knot Conference. As long as there is no payment to the organisation it is after my understanding not a SoftwareAsAService and compliant with the license of Workadventure.--Hogü-456 (talk) 20:33, 11 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, WorkAdventure is a great platform and I hope we will continue using it beyond the Wikimedia Hackathon. However, for the Celtic Knot Conference, we are taking a minimalistic approach and we try to not have too many tools for people to interact. Most of the CKC previous participants and people engaged in minoritized languages are actively using Telegram, so we will remain on Telegram groups for this edition.
