Most of the South African national languages have a Wiki but for some reason the Wikipedia for Sepedi (Northern Sotho) is not present. There are indeed Wikipedias for the Sepedi relatives which are Southern Sotho (Sesotho) and (Setswana)language.
There is an online Sepedi dictionary and the development of a Sepedi Wikipedia community will contribute to the development of Sepedi as a language.
At the moment there are about 4 209 000 mother tongue speakers of Northern Sotho and they comprise 9.4% of the South African population
Arguments in Favour
[edit]- Sepedi/Northern Sotho is one of the officially recognized languages of South Africa, and is spoken by 4,208,940 people according to the 2001 census. --Jose77 05:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Sepedi/Northen Sotho is the 4th most spoken language in South Africa followed by Setswana and English. Mohau 06:37, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- Active test project. (personal issue: related to Silozi :)) --OosWesThoesBes 08:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sepedi is one of only two of the 11 official South African languages without an active Wikipedia. I was present at the first Wikipedia Academy in Africa, and there were Sepedi speakers present. I strongly feel, with the rapid growth in some South African language Wikipedias, and the future plans for their development, that Sepedi should be made live as soon as possible. - Active Test Project has grown and now has over 300 articles.Mohau 18:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- Agree with Jose77. If it is spoken by over 4.2 million people, a Wikipedia for this language would definitely be a plausible thing. Razorflame 23:51, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- enough contributors.--Biŋhai 10:26, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Arguments against
[edit]- none.
General discussion
[edit]- none.
Verification observations
[edit]- The localisation is done. What is missing is continued effort on the Incubator. Thanks, GerardM 06:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Checking the content, the articles are not substantial enough to allow for the verification that the language is indeed Sepedi. GerardM 12:47, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
- While localization has been done, sustainable activity is still needed. --Millosh 20:32, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Localisation update
[edit]- Currently 100.00% of the most used MediaWiki messages have been localised. Localisation of these messages is a requirement before your request is finally assessed. This is the recent localisation activity for your language. Thanks, GerardM 12:45, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Approval
[edit]Please, fill the localization form above, so we could fill bug report to create Wikipedia. --Millosh 08:40, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
