Budget breakdown
[edit]$10/hour * 6 hours/week * 15 weeks = ~$900 to cover an internship program for the length of one semester
Project scope
[edit]Wikimedia NYC would like to expand its capacity for working in the real world and interacting with local institutions though a student internship program. The prime candidates we will be looking at to recruit will be the students we have worked with successfully in the past at the Students For Free Culture groups at Columbia University and NYU.
Funding for this project will go toward intern compensation.
Project goal
[edit]The goal of this project is to enable a more sustained and professional building of relationships with the institutions of our region, and will allow us to follow up on promising opportunities for interactions that we have not been able to pursue in the past because of insufficient volunteer resources. The intern will be mostly employed in writing to and meeting with representatives of such institutions, to help us develop these new relationships.
Non-financial requirements
[edit]A letter from the Wikimedia Foundation, helping to establish the internship with the participating university (so that the intern can get full student credit) would be very helpful.
Fit to strategy
[edit]The project will help develop the professionalization and credibility of the organization, and its capacity for further such professionalization in the future.
Other benefits
[edit]This project takes advantage of existing relationships with local Students For Free Culture activists, who are already ideally suited in knowledge, energy and enthusiasm to help advance Wikimedia projects.
Measures of success
[edit]We will consider this project a success if we substantially improve our range of working relationships with local institutions, and lay a solid foundation for our longer-term existence as an organization.
