Speedy sessions where you will learn about: 1. Every book its reader: a global Wikimedia campaign Presents the Every Book its reader campaign and its results. The campaign was organized in 2023 by librarians from different countries to promote the improvement of content about books in Wikimedia projects 2. Addressing Institutional Knowledge Gaps with Wikipedia: Native American Women Activists Editathon There is a lack of information in Penn State Libraries-provided material about the Native Americans on whose lands various Penn State University campuses sit. A group of librarians, faculty, staff, and students came together to use Wikipedia to create action around improving the information available and organization of the information to our users, and how we collect and present this information. One of the ways that the team decided on to both address the institutional gap and contribute to public knowledge of the peoples Penn State land sits on, was through editing Wikipedia. The team collaborated closely with history faculty to coordinate the now yearly Native American Women Activists Wikipedia Editathon which is planned in celebration of Women's History Month in the United States. The team planned the editathon, coordinated Wikipedia training for students shared best practices for writing about Indigenous people, and taught students how to find, read, and use sources. This lightning talk will share how we coordinated this event, developed learning objects for students, and identified indigenous activists. 3. GLAM residencies Let's organize an international residency program for GLAM advocates around the world! The residencies could invite Open Access advocates across organizational, country and language borders to join. The hosts could be openness organizations, cultural organizations, human rights organizations, research or preservation projects and so forth. We could even create centers where one could apply for a residency. Who might be interested in supporting this kind of activities? |
