It lives in forests and shrub lands in central and southern Africa. It is closely related to kudu, sitatunga and bongo. It is a species that can generally adapt well to changing conditions. It is found in most of sub-Saharan Africa.
The color of the fleece varies from light brown to dark brown through red brown. Females and young usually have a lighter fleece color, often red, males are often darker and become even more so as they age. On the body, mainly the back and the hindquarters, run white vertical lines (maximum seven) and white dotted lines. The head is often lighter in color. On the short snout a black line, while the cheek and the ears carry a white spot. The guib has a large tail in plume, white at the back and black at the beginning. A narrow band of long, light hairs usually runs on the back, from the shoulders to the tail. In the male, the belly is dark in color. Above the black hooves are white lines. Only males wear horns. Long from 25 to 57 cm, they are almost straight, with only one curvature (sometimes two). From the head to the beginning of the tail it measures from 105 to 150 cm, for a height at the withers from 61 to 100 cm and a body weight between 24 and 80 kg (according to sex and subspecies). Males are larger than females. Males weigh between 30 and 80 kg, females between 24 and 60 kg. The bushbuck is a moderately fast runner, able to reach 50 km / h in race speed with peaks at 70 km / h. It is a good jumper that can jump up to 2 m high. He is alert, has a good hearing, a good sense of smell but a rather mediocre view.
